Superfruits are mega multitaskers for healthy, more youthful skin in our natural makeup and skin care
Posted on October 22, 2021 Written by: 100% PURE ®Want to know about the best antioxidant skin care to give your skin all the nutrient support it needs? Today on the blog we’re talking about superfruits in skin care – what they do for our skin, how they work, and where to find them.
First, let’s rewind a little bit. Just what is a superfruit? Not all fruits in the produce section are made equal, and even switching to organic doesn’t make a difference in this case. A superfruit refers to any fruit packed with antioxidants, nutrients, and vitamins making the fruit even healthier for you than the average apple or orange.
There is one superstar superfruit that most of us already know and love, and that’s acai. This little berry popped into popularity and has been in every powdered supplement and smoothie bowl since. The reason that people can’t stop loving acai berries is because of all the nutrient power they contain! That’s why we decided to harness the power of superfruits for our skin care and beauty products -- because of the boundless benefits superfruits have on skin.
Some of you may have wondered, what is a superfruit and what are some of their key benefits for skin?
The most notable for skin care is that superfruits contain antioxidants. Antioxidants are detoxifying for the skin. Think about this – each day just doing simple things like taking the train into work or putting in that work on the stair master, our skin can be exposed to toxins and damage. Damage can come from pollutants in the environment, sun exposure, and these harmful free radicals are also emitted from our own bodies as well.
Unfortunately, we can’t get rid of free radicals completely, but we can use the power of antioxidants to counteract the damage they can cause. Superfruits contain the antioxidants we need to make this happen. Here are some of the ways they can impact skin:
Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
As our skin cells age, our skin’s ability to remain supple, smooth and elastic becomes compromised. Aging skin has a harder time fighting free radicals and inflammation, so wrinkling and lines become more apparent. Consuming or topically applying antioxidants from superfruits can help repair the damage caused by free radicals, help boost collagen production in the skin, and contribute to tighter, smoother looking skin over time.
Counteract sun damage and fade age spots
Harmful UV rays are one of the most common and most potent sources of free radical damage. While the sun can cause clumps of pigment to gather on the skin’s surface (think age spots and freckles), antioxidants from superfruits use powerful vitamins to tone and blast away uneven complexion for smoother and more youthful looking skin.
Fight acne
One added bonus of antioxidants is that many of them contain anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities. While the causes of acne can include stress, poor lifestyle or diet, and that dreaded time of the month, many cases of acne can be treated with antioxidants.
So how can superfruits help acne? Antioxidants, like the ones found in abundance in superfruits, are antimicrobial and antibacterial. That means they can fight the toxins and free radicals that can cause breakouts.
We’ll be honest… we definitely play favorites when it comes to superfruits. While we enjoy flings with a variety of them, here are our main squeezes:
Pomegranate
This tart, red superfruit is packed with antioxidants that help keep our skin looking young and tight. Poms help with skin cell generation, meaning new skin faster and younger looking skin, too. In addition, pomegranates help to fight acne causing bacteria, even skin tone with their vitamin C content, and help fight sun damage.
Acerola
Acerola is a tropical red fruit that looks like a cherry. It helps to hydrate skin, boost collagen production, fight skin damage with its rich concentration of B-vitamins, and contribute to a radiant skin tone.
Mangosteen
Mangosteen is a superfruit that’s popular in its origin countries of Southeast Asia. For skin, it has natural antibacterial properties – that can help treat symptoms of acne – and anti-inflammatory compounds to calm eczema. With its powerful antioxidant properties, it’s also useful against signs of premature aging.
Goji
Are you noticing a theme in color for our favorite superfruits? In this case, red goes with everything. Rich red goji berries are another superfruit high in vitamin C for brightening the skin tone, reducing scarring and spotting and collagen support. They are also anti-aging and help contribute to tighter, smoother skin.
Acai
If there’s a vitamin out there, acai berries have got it. Acai berry skin benefits include detoxifying, anti-aging, brightening and hydrating.
Coffee Cherry
Coffee cherry is a superstar for fighting and reversing sun damage in skin. The naturally occurring caffeine in this fruit helps to constrict swollen and puffy skin, resulting in depuffed and calmed skin. This superfruit also helps to increase blood flow for better hydration and skin repair.
While you could easily spot superfruits in nearly every skin care or makeup product we make, we’re going to focus on several of our favorites! We’re excited to announce the launch of our newest Superfruit Skin Care Collection. There are three new stars of the skin care show: our new Superfruit Cream, Superfruit Facial Oil, and Superfruit Balm.
