Adulting is hard. It’s a merry go-round of deadlines, calendar events, and alarm clocks. We can all appreciate the ultimate (and elusive) gift of rest! However for most of us, a day off from work isn’t really free. We give ourselves to family, friends, and work – and are usually overdue for some “me time”.

Carving out a few moments to pamper yourself doesn’t have to have to take hours, or cost a lot of money. You can pamper yourself like a pro from your own home, and we’re here to tell you this: it’s OK to take care of YOU! Nobody can pour from an empty cup, right? So dig in and get the lowdown on our best ways to pamper yourself (guilt-free)!

How to Pamper Your Mind, Body, and Soul

Nothing is more centering to the mind and body than a relaxing – with a side of pampering! If you’re looking to pamper yourself, it doesn’t mean you need to go all out and drop a few Benjamin’s at a fancy spa, or focus on just one aspect of your well-being. You can pamper yourself like a pro with a wide range of easy self-care practices that can harmonize your mind, body, and spirit.

1) Pampering Your Mind:
First, it’s time to check out – mentally! Ultimate pampering starts with calming your state of mind, to establish a deep connection to your body and inner consciousness. Let go of any stressors weighing on you. If you don’t mind, then it doesn’t matter. So, let it go, let it gooooo!

Try some Om
The sun’s rays penetrate your skin deeply and cause the formation of harmful molecules called free radicals. These free radicals cause damage to your skin’s cells and tissues, causing genetic mutations that can lead to skin cancer, and even cellular death. Fortunately, there’s scientific evidence that green tea not only fights free radicals from within – it also helps to reverse the effects of sun damage.

  • If you’re having trouble concentrating, pop in some earplugs and pull up a guided meditation on YouTube. If meditating isn’t really your thing, practice some breathing exercises. These can help you to release any tension built up in your body and will help you decompress.

Write in a journal
A gratitude journal is a great way to pamper your mind and shift your mindset to positive things. Spending a few minutes reflecting on what you’re thankful for, or on your best qualities can lift your spirits and give you that much deserved self-love.

  • Don’t want to write? Listen to an inspirational podcast or meditative music. Both can improve your mood and well-being.

2) Pampering Your Body:
There’s an old saying, which we find to ring true: ‘a healthy mind lives inside a healthy body’. In other words, your mind governs and controls the health of your body – and vice versa. If you’re looking to keep things balanced, it’s important to pamper yourself from the inside and out!

Go for a walk
Getting outside is one of the best things you can do to recalibrate your mind and body. Put on your favorite tunes or listen to the ambient sounds of your surroundings. The exercise combined with music - or nature - and the outdoors can lift your mood and relieve stress.

  • Want to stay inside? Yoga stretches are perfect, and you don’t have to be an expert yogi either! There are hundreds of free, beginner yoga videos online.

Take a nap
Give the gift of rest – to yourself! After a long and busy week, recharge your batteries by taking a refreshing nap. To avoid grogginess or a nighttime sleep disruption, keep your catnaps to about 30 minutes, and not too close to bedtime.

PRO TIP: If you’ve got kids, this tip could be a big ask. However, it’s essential to have gas in the tank if you’re taking care of others. Talk to your partner, friend, or family member and ask if they can take over while you catch up on rest – most will be eager to help, but won’t know you need it unless you tell them!

Get sudsy in the tub
Nothing comes close to taking a relaxing bath next to perhaps having some bubbly in your fav goblet nearby. Diffuse essential oils, such as lavender or eucalyptus, and benefit from the soothing and relaxing aromas. Cheers, to yourself!

  • Try our Lavender Sea Therapy Bath, which combines lavender oil with nourishing crystallized kelp for a detoxifying and calming self-care experience at home.

  • Pair your relaxing spa bath with our Burdock & Neem Shampoo. This balancing shampoo is made with refreshing eucalyptus essential oil to stimulate circulation while helping to soothe and treat what’s ailing your scalp.

3) Pampering Your Soul:
Boosting your emotional and physical health is an important part of living the healthiest version of you. What better way to pamper yourself than having a little lifestyle makeover?! You'll be surprised at the excitement you’ll feel when you open your mind to new stimulation.

Start a class or hobby
Continuing to learn throughout your lifetime is key to mental longevity and renewed self-worth, especially when you feel stagnant in other areas of your life. Consider a hobby or skill that you are interested in, or have put off due to everyday demands. Challenge yourself to learn about that topic, or take a lesson – learning something new is also a great confidence-booster.

  • Some fun suggestions? Dabble in art, photography, gardening, or essential oils. Remember: your hobby doesn’t have to be practical to be worth your time. If it keeps you mentally engaged or boosts your self-esteem, it’s more than worth the effort!

  • Giving back to the community can also be a surprising source of ‘me’ time, even though you’re technically donating your time to an outside cause. Check for local beach or river cleanup days, or spend time volunteering at a local animal shelter. You’ll be amazed with how fulfilled you feel after donating your time to a meaningful cause!

Cook yourself a nice meal
Cooking and preparing fresh, delicious foods is one of the cornerstones of a healthy lifestyle, and quite literally feeds the soul. Whether you live alone or are finally finding time for a quiet lunch alone, the act of cooking for yourself is a huge gesture of self-care. Find a recipe that inspires you and encourages good health. Turn on some tunes, enjoy the art of preparing your meal, and serve yourself in style.

  • Short on time? Plenty of stores have curbside pickup, and some even deliver groceries to your home. There are also meal-kit subscriptions tailored to fresh, nutritious food.

  • Want the full experience? Plan ahead for your meal ‘me’ team by visiting the local weekend farmer’s market. Browse and be inspired by locally sourced ingredients, and put aside a day of the upcoming week to create your culinary masterpiece.

Unplug from tech
Noooooo!! But… yes. Refrain for a little while from texting, scrolling, liking, hashtagging, emailing, snapchatting – you get it. Be bold and set daily reminders to monitor your phone usage, put your phone or laptop in a room of the house you rarely enter, or simply turn off your devices for at least an hour or two (or more) a day. Being unplugged and limiting screen time is proven to improve sleep patterns, mitigate anxiety and stress, and even lessen certain types of depression.

  • Instead of using devices to connect you, try strengthening your real life interpersonal relationships. Phone that friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. Call your mom. Anything to engage you in the here and now – not in a device. Keep your social commitments, even if you’re feeling like a homebody when they roll around. Sit with your friend, partner, or child and spend some quality time just hanging out – it all adds up to some truly soul-satisfying self-care.

4) Pampering YOURSELF:

Try a facial massage
Giving yourself a relaxing facial massage can help encourage beautiful skin and hopefully, a more relaxed state of mind, too. Massage also stimulates blood flow in the skin for a smoother, more vibrant complexion.

Weave in spa essentials

Finish off your soak with one of our nourishing and luxurious whipped body butters. Applying these creams right after you get out of your bath will help to lock hydration into your skin.

5) Pampering Your Heart:
Good heart hygiene doesn’t mean skipping past the tough stuff, but rather creating space to process the stressful thoughts and unpleasant feelings; then finding ways to balance those emotions with uplifting moments and positive actions. Winter is a great time for reflection and me-time to accomplish a clearer heart and headspace.

Connect to your inner child
Finding ways to play is just as important in our 20s, 30s, and 40s+ as it was in grade school; playing just might look a bit different now. Like a fun facial night with friends is totally something we would have done at a teenage sleepover, but it is still just as fun now, and allows you to pamper yourself while still having fun.

Share skin treats with friends using gentle, crowd-pleasers like delicate and toning Rose Water Gel Cleanser to cleanse and balance the skin; followed by the nutritious and conditioning Cocoa Butter Moisture Mask for a satiated, hydrated skin adult slumber party.

It's good practice to have on hand a variety of games that keep us active, gets us social, and inspires creativity. Some examples: sledding or nature photography, cards or scrabble, pottery or cooking.

Write a letter to the past
As the year comes to a close – especially in more challenging years – we might think on all that we didn’t accomplish. Rather than view this as failure or far fetched dreams, we prefer to practice forgiveness and grace.

Pen a letter to your 2021 self, acknowledging your best qualities. What did you sacrifice? How did you care for others? In what ways do you plan to better meet your own needs? Fair warning, tears will be triggered, but it’s totally worth it.

Meet the new you in the now
Sometimes we might feel lost, or uncomfortable in our own skin. Maybe it’s because we haven’t accepted all the ways we’ve changed? Look at the ways your daily routine isn’t meeting your needs and make small tweaks. For instance, some days we’re running late in the mornings and have to sacrifice coffee, or a full skincare routine, and we end up feeling disheveled. Opt for products that work smarter with less effort to better pamper yourself and allow us to prioritize me-time.

In the case of skin, our Super Fruit Cream and Super Fruit Oil combo. These take powerful fruity antioxidants like pomegranate, goji, and acai and seal them into the skin for a glow that builds and lasts. In these colder months, it’s a great way to stave off dry, dull looking winter skin by fighting signs of aging and protecting our moisture barrier.
